Development Control

Colin worked in a freelance capacity for Wychavon District Council in Worcestershire covering for a planning officer on maternity leave. The work involved processing a range of different types of planning applications within an area of the District using the Acollaid computer system for managing the application process. Negotiations were carried out with applicants to ensure that any permissions were fully consistent with the Regional Spatial Strategy, the Worcestershire County Structure Plan and the Wychavon Local Plan policies.

Site visits were carried out for all applications to assess potential impacts of proposals on neighbouring properties and the surrounding areas. Reports were prepared for each application and presentations made to the Development Control Committee as required. Around 90% of applications were decided within the 8-week target period. Evidence was provided to the Planning Inspectorate in relation to Planning Appeals.

In addition to his work at Wychavon, Colin has several years of experience in dealing with planning applications as a Statutory Consultee. He was the regional planner for the South West Region for British Waterways for three years and before that dealt with planning application whilst at the Environment Agency and the Countryside Commission. He has experience is submitting planning applications and negotiating with planning officers to secure successful planning permissions.
